i ve recently been listening a lot to "billie holiday: remixed and reimagined".. i m not really into electronic music, but some of these guys have done a great job remixing what where already great songs... "spreadin' rhythm around" is my favourite

Hi Alejaaandro,

I had not heard of this album before, so I quickly searched around for more info. I found a link where you can listen to 3 selected tracks from the CD in their entirety (including your favourite one mentioned above) :

http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1477 .  (Click on one of the song titles at the bottom of the page to listen).

I quite like "Glad to Be Unhappy", mainly because of the fact that the remixing has been done in a very subtle and almost ambient manner, thereby creating something fresh and (somewhat) new, without compromising its "retro-goodness"   Wink

alejaaandro, thank you for creating such an interesting topic.  Kiss

Even though I'm the ultimate electro mad-fan, from 'Kittaro' to 'Neurotic Fish', and a proper swing kid, I don't really appreciate this, or similar, albums.

Yeap, OK, its an interesting approach...the matching of something old with fresh and modern elements is always a good starting thought but erm....we've seen it so many times in art....and it doesn't really work that well. That is, if the original idea is to create something new - its just not new.

Without wanting to give a whole lecture in music aesthetics, the only thing I can say here, is that art is the product of each given time and society. Original Swing music sounds a particular way, uses a particular instrumentation, has particular lyrics, and so has a particular feeling, because it mirrors a particular period of time, with its problems, aspirations and hopes. Employing modern technological medium to alter - enhance this unique feeling leads to the creation of hybrids.

So, yeap, although I do enjoy to jump up and down with harsh Industrial music - the purest representaive style of the 21th century-, I'm also a proud swing kid stuck in the 1940s!

It Don't Mean a Thing, If It Ain't Got That Swing!
