Burlesque is my love - I breath Burlesque!

It is a direct descendant of vaudeville. It seems that it originated during the Victorian era, however had its roots in the French court of Louis the XIV.

A Burlesque show is basically a collection of funny - even ridiculous- sketches, with a witty erotic element, very close to the German Cabaret of the WWII period.

Americans (and unfortunately British) have created the so-called Neo-Burelsque and have turned the art of Burlesque to strip tease, but this is not the idea behind it at all. French Burlesque perfrmers for example never take their clothes off!

A good Burlesque skit to watch is the movie 'Cabaret' with Lisa Minelli.

hi folks. Great article in Big Fish! Even though I found it a bit over the top and stuck on nostalgia land... But I guess the author didn't really have a chance to do otherwise after meeting the 3 Greek goddesses of swing! Excellent job! We're so happy to be part of your community. I have to admit, I'm stuck in the past, and to be more precise I'm stuck in the 1940s...there are reasons for my obsession, but that's a looooong story!

However, you're right, there is a neo-swing current, and that's more than great news!

We should all stick together, old fashioned swingers, and neo-swing lovers. There is space for everyone

It's not a problem if you miss a class, it is very easy to catch up.

Also, it sounds like you getting a lot of practice outside of the class, so things will be even easier for you.
