hi everyone, i m alex, 22 y.o... I accidentally got my hands on a Big bad voodoo daddy cd about a year ago and fell in love with swing... Started searching the whole thing and was amazed both with the music, the style (I ve always been a retro-fan) and the dancing (those youtube videos are insane!!).. Anyway, I recently almost abandoned my guitar, got myself a trumpet and been struggling to get some sound out of it, and for the first time in my life i m keen on staring dance lessons (hopefully you ll be starting new lessons for beginners soon, huh?) Might see some of you guys on Monday at half note, i had already plans to go there, and i will probably try to catch the party at the Barrio (that's open for anybody, right?)... Welcome on board Alex....toooo-toooooo 
As a musician I have a good piece of advice: if you want to get the swing feeling on either the sax or trumpet, try it first on the piano! Sounds mad but its not - obviously the piano is not gonna be of much help with the breathing technique but it helps to get the right style on rhythm, syncompation, phrasing etc. Good luck with, it, we're next to you!
Please come and say hi tonight at the Half Note, it would be great to meet you in person! Just look for the screaming crowd! (and the girl wearing a red dress)

Hi Alex, We are glad to have you here in the forum, thanks for joining. Yes, new lessons for beginners will be starting soon, we will make announcements here (forum) and on the website when we get the new starting dates finalized. And always, all events, and parties etc.. that you see mentioned here, are indeed open to everyone. You don't need to be a swing dancer, and you don't need to be taking, or planning to take lessons, everyone is very welcome. Ben. |

(and just between us...don't give up the guitar! There's nothing like it...Will it help if you think of Django Reinhardt?)
ha... no, i m not really giving up the guitar.. i' ve just neglected it a little bit.. (abandoned was a wrong choice of word..) i ve already been through the Django phase some time ago.. anyway, if you' re into guitar you should download the "sweet and lowdown" soundtrack and probably try to see the movie too.. |

After dancing 9 years the tango, I finally found the time and the mood to venture into swing.
Congratulations for your efforts in expanding swing in athens.
U are mostly welcome to host your parties in the Tango Bar once or twice per month.

Helli Aris, Thanks for joining and posting in the forum, its great to see more people enthusiastic about swing dancing in Athens. I don't think I have been to the Tango Bar before, but I would like to check it out soon. i saw and hear the big band of municipality of Athens!!! great band with a singer too!!
every second monday they are playing there!!!!
it's free and they are incredible!!!
