About Us
‘Athens Swing Cats’ (Ben, Joss and Christina) were formed in 2008 and were the first Lindy Hop team to form in Athens. ‘Athens Swing Cats’ also host weekly Swing events, DJ’ing their own events as well as working with Live bands, with an always packed dancefloor, in various venues around Athens.
Ben, Joss and Christina share a passion about Swing music and dancing. Their aim is to share their knowledge of the Swing era, music and dance, with as many people as possible.
Ben
Ben started Swing dancing in 2003 as a member of both the Edinburgh University Swing Dance Society and Edinburgh Swing Dance Society. He has been taught by acclaimed Lindy Hop teachers, and has participated in countless Lindy Hop Workshops. Ben has been teaching Lindy Hop since 2008, as well as 1920s Charleston. Prior to Swing Dancing, Ben was heavily involved in the 'Break Dancing' scene while living in New York for several years while also studying Tiger Claws Kung-Fu. Before forming the ‘Athens Swing Cats’, Ben played drums in several indie rock/post-punk bands in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Joss
Joss started Swing dancing in 2002 as a member of the Edinburgh Swing Dance Society. She has participated in various Swing Festivals worldwide and has been taught by the greatest names in Swing dancing, in several Lindy Hop Workshops. Joss, with Ben, is one of the founding members of the ‘Athens Swing Cats’. She has been teaching Lindy Hop and Solo Charleston since 2008, and has recently started teaching Burlesque. Joss has studied Ballet and Jazz Dancing for 8 years, and Figure Skating for 6 years. She holds a Ph.D. in Musicology (University of Edinburgh) and is an experienced Concert Pianist holding several Awards with a passion for Romantic and Rags music.
Christina
Christina joined the ‘Athens Swing Cats’ back in 2008 and has been teaching Lindy Hop since 2009. She has enriched her knowledge by attending several International Workshops all over Europe. Christina is a classically trained Ballet dancer with extensive experience of gymnastics (including acrobatics) and 8 years of Kick-Boxing. She has also studied classical guitar for 9 years.
